Depicted here are two LDS missionaries who have stopped on their way to play marbles with some local kids. Although the missionary’s call is “to preach faith and repentance to every creature,” it is also to “be a light unto the world” (D&C 103:9) in ways that may include simple kindness or friendly gestures. Something as trivial as playing marbles may be a way of speaking to those you serve in their own language or on their own terms (see Alma 29:8; D&C 90:11). Helping bring souls unto Christ can mean many things that do not seem directly related to convincing the world of divine truth. Who can measure the influence of a kind word, a selfless act, or a Christ-like deed? For “by small and simple things are great things brought to pass… and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls” (Alma 37:6-7). - Joseph Brickey
